Restaurant Quality Pasta Sauce

Writer: Jake ShulmanJake Shulman

Missing that 'to die for' pasta sauce at Italian restaurants? Try this recipe!

Ingredients

1/4 cup olive oil

1/2 red onion (chopped)

2 garlic cloves (finely chopped)

1 tsp salt

1/4 tsp pepper

2 tsp red pepper flakes

6 oz tomato paste

1 cup heavy whipping cream

1/3 cup pasta water

3 cups pasta

1 cup shredded parmesan cheese

2 tbsp fresh basil

Instructions

1. Start with boiling water for the GF pasta in a separate pot (we used buckwheat pasta!)

2. In a pan, start with heating the oil and adding the onion and finely chopped garlic.

3. After a few minutes, add the salt, pepper, and red pepper flakes.

If you like spicy, go crazy with the amount of red pepper flakes!

If you don't like spicy, be careful with the amount you use.

4. After a stir or two, add in the tomato paste and heavy whipping cream. It'll look very thick and weird but just keep stirring until the tomato paste and cream come together and looks pink.

5. Once the sauce looks thick and pink, add the pasta water. Don't be too scared to add more if needed because we wish we added more once it was all done!

6. Take the pasta from the other pan and add it to the sauce and stir.

7. Add basil and parmesan cheese, stir.

(Original recipe called for adding 1 tbsp of butter but we didn't and it still tasted wonderful)

8. Serve and enjoy! We topped it with a little more shredded parm once it was on the plate.

Here is our outcome!

We didn't have basil and our buckwheat pasta is black so it tastes better than it looks. :)
